Nine Month Visit

We saw Dr. S today for Ladybug's nine month check. Boy is she growing! She’s now 17 pounds 12 ounces, 27 ¾ inches long and everything looked good. They checked to make sure that her iron levels were within range so they had to prick her finger. She was so fascinated by the whole process that she forgot to get upset, she also had to get her first polio vaccine* but it didn’t bother her either. She’s such a brave little one!

*for those of you wondering why she was getting a vaccine at her nine month visit we are following an alternative vaccination schedule. She will receive a maximum of two shots at any given time. For more information see: The Vaccine Book by Dr. Sears. I would highly recommend any parent read this even if you plan on following the “normal” vaccine schedule.

No more visits until she’s a year old, can you believe that’s only 2 months away?

Memorial Day Weekend May 23-24, 2009

Wow we had a lot packed into a little weekend! We all went to visit Maamaa and Papa at Lake Gaston. (Yes, Chase went to) I had the privilege of riding in the backseat of the truck with Ladybug on the trip down. Why, you ask, well Chase got the front seat! Chris decided that he would let me drive on the way home, I don’t think he liked the comment from the man at the car wash – “dog in the front, wife in the back, that’s what I’m talkin’ ‘bout.”

Ladybug got to go on her first boat ride, we were worried that she would really fight the lifejacket but she seemed to not mind it. Just fell right asleep. We now know a quick way to get in nap time! She also had her first ice cream cone from Ebony General (a Wade family tradition). Once she figured out that she could eat it, look out! She also had her first taste of homemade ice cream, Papa’s favorite. So much for only healthy foods, I guess everything in moderation will have to be our motto!

Chris and I were also spoiled while we were there. Maamaa and Papa were more than happy to watch Ladybug sleep while we went and played golf (my first time!) and took a nap ourselves! Who knew sleep could be so wonderful?

Mother's Day May 10, 2009

How blessed I was to have Ladybug dedicated on my first mother’s day. It is such an honor for Chris and I to be able to stand in front of our family and friends and God to proclaim our intent to raise her in His glorious way and love. We picked a life verse for Ladybug and feel that it really is a wonderful verse not only for her to grow by but for all of us to live and learn. Colossians 1: 9-12:

9For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped
praying
for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will
through all
spiritual wisdom and understanding. 10And we pray this in order
that you may
live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way:
bearing fruit in
every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11being
strengthened with all
power according to his glorious might so that you may
have great endurance and
patience, and joyfully 12giving thanks to the
Father, who has qualified you[d]
to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. 13For he
has
rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom
of the
Son he loves, 14in whom we have redemption,[e]
the forgiveness of sins.

Our adventure into Baby Led Weaning has really picked up as Ladybug has really started eating anything and everything put in front of her! She still prefers meat over anything else but I think fruit may be coming in a close second. Her two new teeth don’t seem to be helping the process yet. It is so wonderful to watch her happily munching away on whatever Chris and I are having for dinner and then sneakily try to feed it to the dog! We are trying to stop this cute behavior much to the disappointment of Chase.
